Thanks for visiting my ePortfolio! My name is Chloe Johnson and I am a second year Bachelor of Education student at Thompson Rivers University. I am located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc within Secwépemc’ulucw, the traditional territory of the Secwépemc nation.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and as well as a Master of Education from TRU. I am passionate about literacy and research. In 2017, I was part of the Undergraduate Research Experience Award Program at TRU and completed a research project called “Secret-Telling and children: How they spill the beans” (available to read under the Educational Influences tab!). Then, in 2020, I completed a Master of Education Project titled “Adult Assessment of Child Credibility” in which I investigated whether demographic factors influenced how credible adults rated students (this can be viewed under the Educational Influences tab as well!).

Throughout my experiences as a student myself, as well as my experiences at TRU Sport Camps and with KMHA, I have seen firsthand how a supportive, positive adult presence can affect children’s development. Having that trusted adult around can build a child’s confidence while encouraging them to take risks and try new things.
During my Master of Education program, I took a Philosophy of Education course. Throughout the course, I had to verbalize my own philosophy of education. This philosophy centered around empowerment, around making sure that every individual knows how valuable they are regardless of their grades in reading or math class. In my future classroom, I aim to ensure that each student feels that they are in a safe space and that they can truly be themselves in that space.

When I’m not pursuing my title of “Lifelong Student”, I love to re-organize the books on my bookshelf, tend to my vegetable garden, and hang out at Shuswap Lake. I have also always loved to participate in all kinds of sports. I played hockey and softball throughout my life and have coached hockey since I graduated from Kamloops Minor Hockey Association. I am passionate about the link between brain health and physical health. I hope to encourage lifelong physical literacy and a love of activity in any student I get the pleasure of teaching.
My family has always been a large supporter of my educational journey. With both of my parents as well as my husband being entrepreneurs, the underlying attitude in my family has always been the benefit of hard work! Both of my parents came to British Columbia from Manitoba with my mom growing up in Winnipeg and my dad growing up in small town Killarney. My sister moved back to the prairies with her husband and now lives in Okotoks, Alberta.

My grandpa was also an enthusiastic supporter of myself and my education. He always taught my sister and I about the importance of our studies and was an active participant in learning with us. I spent many, many days with him throughout his decline into Alzheimer’s disease and he taught me so much about humanity and care. I talk about him more on the “Timeline” page, under “Educational Influences”.
